UT Tyler Welcomes Two New Deans for Fall 2014

The University of Texas at Tyler is a continuously growing family of students, professors, administrations, deans, and presidents. Like most things, employment changes, students graduate, and life moves on. For every year we see people go, however, the next year is filled with vibrant faces, ready to join the UT Tyler family. New Student Orientations are welcoming the next generation of students in as I write. However, this year at UT Tyler, we are also welcoming two new and important faculty members to our halls.

On June 10, 2014, the campus announced that we would be receiving a new dean of the College of Business and Technology. Previously, Dr. Jerry Gilley was an interim dean in the position. This year, we welcome Dr. James Lumpkin in as the dean of the college and are excited to see what he brings to the table. According to the official UT Tyler press release concerning the hiring of the new dean, Dr. Lumpkin comes to UT Tyler from Louisiana Tech and has several degrees under his belt. He received a Masters and then a Ph.D. in Business Administration. We're very excited to have him join us here on campus!

UT Tyler also announced on June 18, 2014 that we would also be welcoming in a new dean to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The previous dean, Dr. Linda Klotz, retired last semester and there was an interim dean for the rest of the semester, Dr. Pam Martin, who is succeeded by the new dean. His name is Dr. Yong "Tai" Wang. Dr. Yong "Tai" Wang comes to UT Tyler from Georgia State University. He has two master's degrees in biomechanics and exercise science, and also a Ph.D. in rehabilitative biomechanics. He sounds like an awesome addition to the college and the university itself! We hope these two colleges benefit from new leadership.

Change always comes in life, especially in a university. We're happy to be able to see it happening in front of us. Welcome new faculty, and new students. Can't wait to see you August 25th for the kick-off to a new school year!

New things are happening at UT Tyler!

 Hey guys! This semester, the university is making a few changes to the way things are done. One of these things includes the expansion of the Enrollment Services Center here on campus!

IT'S RIGHT HERE

Starting this Monday, October 14, 2013, students may pay their charges and bills at the One Stop Shop on the second floor of the Administration building! Up until now, in order to pay for tuition and fees, or other outstanding charges, students had to go to the downstairs cashiers' office. Now you can get all of your things done at the same place!

Faculty and Staff will keep using the downstairs Cashiers office for campus business services.

Another change that was made was that now you no longer have to wait in long lines at the Enrollment Services Center! The university has set up a queuing system that notifies students when they can be seen. Notifications arrive via text to your phone, and your name also pops up on our nifty new kiosk! Now you can avoid waiting in horribly long lines and treat yourself to some food in our University Center!

Hours for the Enrollment Services Center are from 8am to 5pm on Monday through Friday! If you have any questions, feel free to check out our website HERE, or contact the ESC at 903.566.7180! 

The New Girl's First Blog

Hello readers!

I'm Chrissy and I am the new girl on the UT Tyler telecommunications team!

So, being the new girl sucks. People stare at you, they wonder why you're there, they ask you a million questions that you self consciously answer, you feel left out of all the little nicknames and stories everyone else has, and etcetera. Luckily for me, I've had a lot of experience with this. Ever since I was 9 my family and I have moved around due to the fact that my dad is in the Army. My high school career was literally spent at a different high school every year. Since I have had to move around this much you would THINK that I'd know how to introduce myself properly by now. However, never being one to talk that much about myself I was never sure what to say when the class would go around introducing themselves, but I'll try to cover the basics.

I was born in Houston, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia where I stayed for 5 years. I then moved to Monterey, California for a year and a half, and then ended up back in Texas for my senior year in San Antonio.
My junior year I spent in Murcia, Spain with a foreign exchange program. It was amazing. This had to be one of the best experiences of my life. If you ever even consider studying abroad, I strongly encourage it.
My family is from Honduras so I get to be the team's resident Spanish-speaker!
I am a CAP student, and I plan on majoring in International Relations. However, while I am here at UT Tyler, I LOVE trying to be as involved as possible on campus (this will make your college experience so much better, I promise). I am a freshman senator for the Student Government Association, so I try to reach out to my "constituents" as much as possible.

I'm a really friendly, chill, outgoing person. I love movies. Especially indie movies. I love, love, love music. I love to dance, hang out, ride bikes, anything. I love new experiences and meeting new people.
I'm super excited to be apart of the team. Everyone seems really awesome from what I've seen, so I'm gonna try my best to make an awesome addition to this blog. I was soooo nervous coming in on my first day and writing this blog, but now I'm ecstatic and I can't wait to write about all my experiences here on campus. I hope ya'll like it!
