Patriot Days: Life After Graduation!

     The University of Texas at Tyler Student Money Management held a workshop along with Career services and Financial aid today at the University Center Ballroom at 12:30. The workshop focused on providing students with tips and resources that will get them prepared for life after graduating college. Have you thought about what you will do after you graduate?

     So, that feeling when everything just kind of goes crazy, life goes 100 mph and you just don't understand how you got to the situation you are now? See I was told that this happens around the middle of your college career... and that is exactly how this last semester of Sophomore year went.

 

Spring 2013 Job Fair at UT Tyler!

I am pretty excited about the upcoming job fair here at UT Tyler. For everyone who is seeking for internships or even to get an idea on how to seek employers should come to the University Center on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 11 am till 2 pm.

I am definitely looking forward to this because I am in the process of finding an internship and this job fair is keeping my hopes up right now.

You can also bring your resume and let the career services look at your resume. Trust me, it is definitely worth the career services to look at your resumes because they can guide you to the right direction for you career options.

And of course, for the people who are looking for a job in campus, please try to take some time out on Wednesday from 11 to 2 and come to this job fair, it will give you an idea on where to start. These is a really great opportunity that UT Tyler offers every semester for students, and we all should take advantage of this and try to get to know the employers. Let them know on where you see yourself in future. It is very important to communicate to the employers who are looking for students from UT Tyler.

Spread the word; come join us at UC on Wednesday from 11am to 2pm. And hopefully I will be able to find my internship there.

Salary Negotiation

I attended a mock interview today at The UT Tyler Career Services office for on of my classes. The Career Services Office is easily located in the University Center! A real company came out to grade me, and pass along how well I did to my professor.

A very central discussion in a serious interview is how much money you expect for your skills!
Nerve-racking, huh? You have to price yourself.

If you have some time, on Saturday, November the 10th you can find out how to talk about personal pricing.
Arrive a little before 10 am, and it takes place until 12:30 pm at UT Tyler Baptist Student Ministry! This building is brick and located on the corner of Patriot Avenue and Varsity Drive.

Registration makes place here and learn:

• The personal consequences of the gender wage gap
• Understanding reasonable salaries and benefits
• Developing a "bare bones" budget to pay basic expenses

Work shops like this are offered all the time through Career Services, like the Etiquette Awareness Dinner on Thursday the 15th from 5-7 pm.

Thinking about your future?

Just this weekend my mom and I were discussing exactly how I should be preparing for my future. This pending graduation in December is QUICKLY approaching! There's so much talk about resumes, full-time jobs, graduate school, internships, and the plethora of other post-graduation opportunities!

Luckily, The University of Texas at Tyler hosts wonderful events to help students at every step of their education. I am particularly looking forward to the Graduate and Professional School Info Panel Session hosted by Career Services. This event will take place THIS FRIDAY October 12 from 12-1:30 in the UC Ballroom! 

The information being presented includes:
     1) Information on choosing a graduate program
     2) Advice on how to move through the process of applying to graduate school
     3) Tips on succeeding in graduate or professional school

And the program will feature panel guests from The University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at Tyler, and LeTourneau University.
