Navigating Patriots Jobs!

One of the many perks of going to this wonderful university is that we have an awesome website for students(and alumni) to find jobs. Patriot Jobs is the name of the website for those who want to further inquire this post. You can find on campus and off campus jobs through the website. So you are not limited to just finding an on campus job through the website.  

For those who are technically challenged, you can simple type into "patriot jobs" into Google. You should get the same results as below. If you do not, you can expand your search in Google by adding "ut tyler" to your already searched "patriot jobs".

After you find your way to the opening web page of Patriot jobs. You will be prompted to register your information and enter into the site. You will be prompted to fill a profile with your information. You can fill as much information as you feel as necessary. After you fill out the profile, you can now upload your resume into the system. Your resume will be previewed by those who are at Career Services. They will advice you on what is best to put on your resume and how to properly format it. 

   After your resume is finally approved by Career Services, the next step in your final countdown to getting your job is finding and applying for the jobs. You can browse the jobs you using the upper task-bar and finding the tab that says "jobs & internships". Within the page, you will then narrow down your search to whatever pleases you so.Here is an example of what your search would be if you were looking for all the current on campus jobs that are posted.

That's the best guide for this awesome website from a computer information systems.
 If you have any questions about the site, you can ask them here and I can see if I can answer them or I can send you in the right direction to the questions answered (this is my antidote for calls, it is now basically a mantra) 

Jobs while going to school; don’t sweat the stress!

We all love money. We love using it, we love getting it, and we all hate losing it. There are some students like myself that used to worry about getting a job while going to school.

                I did not want to ruin my GPA by piling on things that I thought I could not do. Some of you may think that getting a job will make your school load unbearable, and your social life would be inexistent.

             

Find your balance!

   But I am here to tell you that it is very doable! Get those applications filled out!

Being in college, most of your parents are going to cut you off, or at least give you less money than they used to (as my mother has done). 

I have to beg her for a little $20, but that money disappears quick.

So getting a job was imperative. However, I have a really busy school schedule and no transportation. So I started looking on Patriot Jobs for jobs on campus. 

There are all kinds of awesome jobs to do on campus. I happen to love my job in the communications center, but if I could pick ANY other job, it would be to work in the Visitor Center. 

...and they happen to be hiring right now.

In the Visitor Center you'll get to work with all kinds of people, you'll get the amazing job of giving tours to prospective students, and just getting paid to share your experience and knowledge of your school with people. 

It's a fun job it looks like, and so simple. 

Plus, you'll be working on campus so that means no traffic worries, no worrying about your schedule interfering with studying, and you won't be working nights. On campus jobs are the best just because they cater to you as a student, but still allow you to make a pretty good salary. 

Imagine all the people you'd get to meet working for the Visitor Center? I'd love to do it. But hurry, because applications get sent in pretty quick.

Spring 2013 Job Fair at UT Tyler!

I am pretty excited about the upcoming job fair here at UT Tyler. For everyone who is seeking for internships or even to get an idea on how to seek employers should come to the University Center on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 11 am till 2 pm.

I am definitely looking forward to this because I am in the process of finding an internship and this job fair is keeping my hopes up right now.

You can also bring your resume and let the career services look at your resume. Trust me, it is definitely worth the career services to look at your resumes because they can guide you to the right direction for you career options.

And of course, for the people who are looking for a job in campus, please try to take some time out on Wednesday from 11 to 2 and come to this job fair, it will give you an idea on where to start. These is a really great opportunity that UT Tyler offers every semester for students, and we all should take advantage of this and try to get to know the employers. Let them know on where you see yourself in future. It is very important to communicate to the employers who are looking for students from UT Tyler.

Spread the word; come join us at UC on Wednesday from 11am to 2pm. And hopefully I will be able to find my internship there.

Thinking about your future?

Just this weekend my mom and I were discussing exactly how I should be preparing for my future. This pending graduation in December is QUICKLY approaching! There's so much talk about resumes, full-time jobs, graduate school, internships, and the plethora of other post-graduation opportunities!

Luckily, The University of Texas at Tyler hosts wonderful events to help students at every step of their education. I am particularly looking forward to the Graduate and Professional School Info Panel Session hosted by Career Services. This event will take place THIS FRIDAY October 12 from 12-1:30 in the UC Ballroom! 

The information being presented includes:
     1) Information on choosing a graduate program
     2) Advice on how to move through the process of applying to graduate school
     3) Tips on succeeding in graduate or professional school

And the program will feature panel guests from The University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at Tyler, and LeTourneau University.

Personally, I am looking forward to this event. I need more information about the possibilities of my future! To save your spot, go log in to PatriotJobs. Find the event and click RSVP! How to apply for a job via the school.

    Whilst waiting for my gyro from Grille Works, a group of students stood in a circle chatting as they waited for their food. I overheard one of them telling the others how he applied for a job via Patriot Jobs.

  This has made me think that Patriot Jobs may not be common knowledge to everyone. I was an overachiever and accessed it the summer before I attended my freshmen here. This fact is mostly because I'm big on researching everything I might need to know.
Anyway, I decided to do a little FAQ about Patriot Jobs.
