My Graduate Message To You, Dear Reader

Almost one year ago I enrolled for the University of Texas at Tyler’s Masters Degree program so I could pursue my MA in English. I was enrolled under what is called “Provisional Acceptance,” this meaning that, while I had not graduated, I was within a few hours of my goal. The semester before had been genuinely awful: I had failed two courses, two courses I did not feel I was particularly good at, and I was also worried about re-taking these courses and doing Provisional Acceptance courses too. I was so worried about how I was going to succeed at these two undergrad courses. One of was Biology and I have never found the subject easy because of the tension the tests gave me. 

Endings and Beginnings

Today is my last day at the call center. My last post, I talked about job hunting and rejection, but I have a new job lined up! I'm heading to the County Clerk's office. I'm going to miss working along side the great people I've worked with for the past (almost) 8 months.  

I Graduated from UT Tyler....Now What?

On Friday, December 13th, I graduated from The University of Texas at Tyler with my bachelor's. I walked across the stage and later went out to eat with my family.

Now, I'm still working my two part time jobs and have to get started on what I'm going to do post-graduation. It still hasn't fully sunk in that I won't have to worry about classes next spring. So I'm feeling a bit lost. 

Should I Go to Grad School?

              After being in school for about fifteen full years, I have a serious question to ask myself- Do I attend grad school right out of my undergrad, or take some time off before? I know that I will be attending grad school, but I have no idea how to go about the process, and after talking to a few people in the office here and reading online, I know I have a lot of work to do!

As my year goes on, I'll update you on the process of applying to grad school (specifically here) and how my time of it goes. So far, my to do list seems pretty small.

• Decide what I need to apply.
• Do that stuff. 

Should be easy, right? Good thing I have a whole year. 

First Graduate Class

       It has been a year since I've taken classes. I've been excited and also dreading going back to school. Mostly because I've had that year off to forget everything that I learned. My Master's will be in Human Resource Development (HRD). I'm taking 2 classes this semester.
       One class is online and it just so happens that I have a co-worker in it which I think will be very helpful. The other class is the main one that I was dreading. It is from 6-8:40 on my day off during the week. I didn't think I would be able to sit through a 2 hour and 40 minutes long class each week. The professor e-mailed out the syllabus and I learned that my department actually has hybrid classes.
         The hybrid classes meet once every other week. I only have to go to this class a total of 8 times this semester and have 2 weeks to do any homework. The class seems like it is going to be fun as well. The professor said that as long as we share our life experiences with him then we will do excellent in the class.      
           Going to class last night took a lot of the pressure off. We only have to read 5 chapters in the next 2 weeks and come up with 3 questions to discuss in the class. I've already ready the 5 chapters so I'm hoping this class will be a breeze. Now I just have to figure out how the online class is going to work. If you are looking for a graduate program I would definitely suggest HRD. The program is designed with a lot of online classes. If you have a face-to-face class it would be once every 2 weeks. It is definitely a good option for people who are trying to work and go to school at the same time.
