UT Tyler Cowan Center: Enjoy high class acts!

Texas is right down center from the two states infamous for entertainment wonders: California and New York. Although mostly two cities make these states popular, the value consumes the states with visitors. New York City is well known for having great performance acts, whether it be musical, comedy or Broadway. It has it all. So when those acts come to The University of Texas at Tyler, there is an opportunity for East Texans and UT Tyler students to experience Grade A entertainment without traveling far. This is what the Cowan Center provides here at the university.

This will be the 18th season for the Cowan Center. This season will provide an array of world class acts where audiences will only crave more and come back every year.

There's different series categorizing different acts. Each one providing an entertainment experience like no other.

CAB Comedy Night event got people on stage

The University of Texas at Tyler welcomed comedian Josh Sneed to the UC Sports Cafe. The comedian brought his unique brand of humor to the nights frivolity which was also supported by Brunos Pizza and sodas. If you were unable to actually make the event, here is a sample of one of the pieces he performed on stage

Wayne Brady to perform at UT Tyler Cowan Center

People say laughter is good for the soul. Audiences love nothing more than being entertained by comedy. Action and romance may be interesting, but a good joke makes everything better! This is why The University of Texas at Tyler's Cowan Center will host Wayne Brady, comedian/actor.

Festivus For The Rest Of Us

Have you ever heard of Festivus? Before yesterday I had never heard of Festivus and so I did some "research" (ie: I looked it up via Google). To my genuine shock I found where it comes from. Was it an old, ancient festival that had a revival in American/world practice? Was it a new, hippie/hipster holiday that is trending on Twitter?

The Magic of Music

Nothing perhaps encapsulates so much about the American college system like Patriot Idol. For those who do not know, Patriot Idol is one event that makes up the tapestry of Homecoming celebrations. Homecoming, much like how an Emperor would return to Rome in glory, sees current students and faculty engage in events to commemorate/celebrate alumni, current students, and the University of Texas at Tyler itself.

Statistics, Spaghetti, and Squid at UT Tyler

"The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence." ~ Rabindranath Tagore

"Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard. Be evil." ~ Some T-Shirt I saw once, I think. maybe it was a bumper sticker? The point is, get those brain's a'crack'n and build the next anti-cancer drug. Or a death-ray powered by sharks. Just keep studying!

Humans are creatures who are capable of great variety of skills including ( but not limited to! ) making sense of the senseless. We are capable of looking into the most bizarre labyrinths of madness ( the plot of Lost, the entire Affordable Care Act bill, or the ingredients list for Big Red soda ) and finding patterns; we look at that which we can't understand and we try to see meaning there.

Patriot Performances at the Cowan Center

With the new semester well under way, new faces everywhere, and new friends being made, there are new opportunities to find exciting things to go and do. One of the places that has captured my attention is the Cowan Center.

In high school, I was in drill team, and I felt my best when dancing and cheering at pep rallies and dancing on stage. There’s just something about the costumes and the chance to perform that just kick-starts my heart! I guess my personal style icon Marilyn Monroe said it best: “some girls are just born with glitter in their veins.”

The Cowan Center is by far one of my favorite places on campus. Lots of practice rooms, couches, pianos, nice places to study- I could go on all day. Not to mention there have been so many famous people inside of it. The world famous Blue Man Group came to Tyler recently. (You can see the vlog Emmy did about them, here) There’s just something about being around so much professional and student talent. It’s inspirational, I just know it!

The Best of the Best - A Valentines Day card SPECTACULAR

So, with Valentines Day here ( and, soon to be gone again for 365 more days ) I decided I would post the "best" of the silly e-cards and images I found on the various walls of my Facebook friends! While not all of these may make sense ( the Train/Bee cards are from an old Simpsons episode ), I find them whole collection hi-larious!

What Words Mean

What Words Mean

I was recently lucky enough to attend the English Honors Society’s ( Sigma Tau Delta ) event, “Open Mic Night”. The purpose of the event was primarily to warm up students to the idea of presenting before others here on our UT Tyler campus. We were lucky to get a good number of students who felt comfortable presenting, but we were also lucky to get a very good turnout for the event.

Final Semester CHAOS

So this is not my normal kind of post, but this semester has been extremely insane. I've dealt with the turbulence of Biology classes ( three at once! ), taking my final level of Japanese, and then also doing online-classes to boot!

Comedy at Liberty Hall!

If you're in the mood for something to lift your spirits before the long arduous semester begins on August 20 head to downtown Tyler on Saturday August 18 for Card 53 Comedy featuring stand up from a few talented local comedians. The show will include the comedic stylings of  Tyler Elliott, Brandon Davidson and from the TBS Just For Laughs Festival Dominic Harris. Tickets can be bought online before the show for $10 or at the door for $15. I hope I see a lot of smiling faces out there!
