UT Tyler Patriot Preview Day

Last Saturday, we held our Patriot Preview Day. This was the first time I've worked one of these events, and I had a blast. If you didn't get a chance to visit us, we will be holding another Preview Day on April 5th. Here's what our twitter feed was like during the event:

If you have pictures of Preview Day, go ahead and tag us on twitter and share your pictures with us!

On Preview Day, breakfast consisted of Rusty's Tacos breakfast tacos; lunch was burgers, hot dogs and dessert. During lunch, we were giving out some prizes and during the showcase, our tables were filled with goodies.

If you've been following us on Twitter in the weeks leading up to Preview Day, our team posted some pictures about getting ready for the big day.

In fact, we got so attached to our Preview Day pumpkins, we started naming them. Valkerie went on a search for her Jeffrey after lunch.

I love happy endings.

What was your favorite part of Preview Day?

Thanksgiving Break is Next Week

Thanksgiving Break is fast approaching The University of Texas at Tyler campus, and it is almost rude to say because none of us are ready. You see, breaks in college are not truly breaks. This is what makes attending a university so trying; it has a lot to do with endurance.

I have 35+ pages due after Thanksgiving break is over. I am just currently thankful that I get that time out of class to complete a few of these papers and eat some sweet potatoes in footie pajamas in the privacy of my own Grandparent's home.
This may or may not be a gratuitous picture of my boss Amelia and I at work on
Patriot Preview Day, with Swoop between us. Did I ever mention that I love my job?

Preview Day Video!

The past year we made a video for our table at Preview Day. This is the new one for the current group of student bloggers made by yours truly.
Enjoy!

Patriot Preview Day is Saturday

This week at UT Tyler has been crazy! My classes getting more serious and my social life is lacking. I am convinced that midterms were made to show me just how much work I have to do to get a decent grade by the end of the class-- and sadly, my answer leaves quite the to-do list. :(

BUT Saturday is Patriot Preview Day! and I get a break from my studies to meet the new, incoming freshmen! My job will be to give campus tours. I used to work in the Admissions Visitor Center (I gave tours before I got on here as a Student Blogger). As much as I adore my current gig, I am excited to be physically active again like that on Saturday. I love walking around the Harvey Lakes, showing all the new kids my favorite places to study, explaining the hawk signs, and showing them where to print stuff for free.

I suppose in the mean time, I should learn the present subjunctive case in French, or whatever.

Patriot Preview Day was a Success!!!

For the past month the Student Communication Center has worked hard by e-mailing students and calling students about Patriot Preview Day. I was a representative at Preview Day on Saturday, and if I say so myself, it went really well. There were a lot of students there and several of these students were interested in joining the Facebook app.
We also had a display board that demonstrated several of the blogs we post here on blogger to get more students to follow us. I had an awesome time handing out fliers about the Facebook App and giving away free pens and vanilla air fresheners.
This is my second Preview Day with the Student Communication Center and I believe that we did pretty well explaining what it is that we do and how it can benefit the students. It was great speaking with students. Many of the students looked as though they are eager to start college here real soon.
I enjoyed working Preview Day, because if you were to ever run into a student who has attended, they always seem to know who you are. They never appear to be nervous about talking to you or asking questions. That makes me feel as though I made a good first impression and I represented us well. I would like to advise anyone who has the opportunity to get involved in Preview Day to do so. It is a great way to get involved with other students and learn more about other organizations and colleges that UT Tyler offers. Trust me the time and the hard work pays off and is well appreciated!
