Crazy Weather at The University of Texas at Tyler
The winter of 2014 has brought some crazy weather. The student's at UT Tyler even had TWO days of bad weather this week! Due to this weather, this is a compilation of things you might want to keep in your car just in case:)
jumper cables: When the weather is really cold and it's perilous to drive, remember to at least start your car and let it run for 5 min. Doing so recharges your battery especially in the low temperature when the cold decreases the power of the battery available to start the car. Find a more detailed explanation here! Sweater Weather? Pssh... Texas Weather!
So what is up with this Texas weather? I know everyone is
always saying that Texas weather cannot make up its mind, but honestly- we've
been back to school for about a week now for spring semester. By now, people
are getting settled into their classes and starting to get a hang of their
schedules, class and otherwise.
However, this brings up a sad,
sad day. It is almost time to say goodbye to sweater weather. Or is it? All of
my classes this semester are really early in the morning and lately whenever I
leave my apartment, it is cold and windy like it would normally be on a late January
morning. So when I get done with class and start heading back to my apartment,
it suddenly feels like spring break weather! It goes from being a brisk, cold
morning to a warm, sunny afternoon. While not exactly great for rocking tights
and a sweater dress, it is absolutely perfect for riding around with the
windows down with your favorite four legged (or two legged!) friend.

Tips for Cold Weather!
Warnings that the temperature would drop below freezing popped up.I was not prepared for such happenings. Aside from the ten billion jackets that occupy the space that was once the back seat of my car.
Luckily, I was gifted a emergency baskets of goodies and for some reason, my car started the next morning with no issue!
Alas, I will not tempt fate more than once!
I equipped my car with an overzealous amount of emergency gear that was inexpensive and at times plain silly.
With that preparation, I always read up on some tips to survive the weather. Thus I am now going to share some tips with ya'll:
- DRESS IN LAYERS!
what not to do!
- Check your car for any issues that will be affected by the weather.

Every vehicle requires a certain ratio of coolant to water, and your owner's manual or repair technician can explain what your engine needs. For most vehicles, a winter ratio is 60% coolant to 40% water. Adjusting this ratio is an important step in winterizing your car, so if you need help, ask someone who is experienced and knowledge.
- Drive safely! for what the weather permit!
Keep the speed demon inside of you on the down low!
