Goodbye, strangers.

Well, faithful readers, my time at the UT Tyler Students Communications Center has come to an end. I can honestly say that this has been an amazing opportunity.  I have so much enjoyed interacting with the people in the office and also those who we speak to that are interested in the University of Texas at Tyler.  I also wanted to thank all of you that have shown support in comments or simply through your views of the blogs.  It really does mean a lot to the entire team when we responses from you all. I could write a book with what I have learned and experienced during my tenure here, but I will keep it short and sweet.

I started at this office approximately 1 year and 3 months ago and I am so happy that I found this particular position.  It has given me an opportunity to talk to people who I, ordnarily, would never even know about.  It has also made me think creatively as I wrote posts for you to view.

I would like to thank Amelia Harrel, our former boss, who put enough faith in me to give me my first real job. Her strength while at UT Tyler was an inspiration.  I also would like to thank our current manager Roger Sims, who has really made our transition from manager to manager as smooth as possible.  Between changing call programs to changing offices, Roger has been such an asset to our team, and we couldn't have done it without him.  Really, though.  We could not have been here without Roger because he is the one who assigns our call lists and stuff.

Don't worry about me, though.  I have brighter things ahead in my future.  I will be moving on to work at the Literacy Council of Tyler to help students obtain a GED and to assist those who speak English as a second language also get their GED.  This new job will help me tremendously with teaching in the future.

While I am sad to leave, I am also excited to start a new project and to help more people.  I have enjoyed my time here, but it is time to go.  If you would like to check out some pictures of my time here, check out Keerin's most recent blog post. Goodbye, strangers.

I’m sorry everyone, but this is what you think; a final farewell from me to all of you. I have spent the last year and eight months with all of you here in this space, at first speaking directly as a counselor and blogger. We talked about some favorite holidays and reframing the ones you don’t like, and about making life a celebration. We talked about the weather, car mishaps, and what it means to make friends when you come to college. For a while, you guys stopped hearing from me, and that’s because I got moved to behind-the-scenes as a supervisor, helping our other bloggers bring you more amazing content about our incredible campus and what life is like here.

So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish

Thursday, July 17th, 2014 will be my final day working for the UT Tyler Admissions Call Center. While my time here seems to have been short, I have enjoyed every moment of working in this office. I have been extremely proud of giving back to my university by spreading the word about how much this institution has to offer to new students. This school has given me so much--an affordable education, a great debate team, great classes and professors, and a great office to work in--and I am extremely gracious to have been able to give back.

Starting mid-August, I will begin working at the Literacy Council of Tyler as a Student Intern, where I will have the opportunity to tutor students enrolled in GED and ESL programs. While I have enjoyed my time expressing to potential students the benefits of enrolling at UT Tyler, this job will give me an opportunity to work with students who need more help than others. I have large respect for those who commit to getting their GED so they can accomplish more with their life, and I love that I get to help these students achieve their short- and long-term goals.

The past year and two months in this office has been extremely memorable. I have met new friends, had great bosses, and the experiences I have shared with them here will go unparalleled in the future. Alas, the opportunities that I have been offered in my new job are too enticing to pass up, and I wish to take my talents to this office to tackle new challenges and make new memories while I still have a year left at UT Tyler.

I will miss speaking with potential students about attending UT Tyler and the opportunities available to them at this wonderful institution. I will miss blogging about debate, events at UT Tyler, the wondrous world of academia, and the opportunities available at UT Tyler. I will miss the shenanigans in the Call Center, such as yelling at Carver and Kevin from across the room. I will miss the friendly environment, the accommodating staff that oversees our office, and the opportunities that they presented us to better ourselves both in and out of the workplace. I will miss the Call Center quite a bit once I leave.

Today is my last day at the call center. My last post, I talked about job hunting and rejection, but I have a new job lined up! I'm heading to the County Clerk's office. I'm going to miss working along side the great people I've worked with for the past (almost) 8 months.

I started working here as Freshmen at the start of my spring semester.

This job has always have given me a feeling about how small the world can be (the size of the University might also be a factor). One of my former coworkers happened to be a roommate of one of my best friend’s. I had no knowledge she worked here until I walked in the office. I happened to send a post card and contact my one of my little freshmen roommates last year. One of the current student bloggers Dallas was in my Orientation group.

Now to the present where I am in my Sophomore/Junior year and am now starting on honing in on finding a job that are more in my future field. Thus, I leave my post as a Student Blogger and venture off into the world of computers. I definitely excited for the prospect but a little worried about leaving my first serious job and moving on! I’m searching to find a good internship or anything that would count as experience in my field. While on my journey for the perfect internship and or job, which comes first. I will also be leveling up my interview skills and learning more about answering some of those pesky interview questions.
I am a bit rusty when it comes to that because I only interviewed for one other job before I started working here. I have had a decent amount of interviews already and many more to come! I have found another job while the search continues. Continuing my stint at Jimmy John’s! which in truth, i’m excited about this but mostly I’m more excited about the discounted sandwiches.

So with that, I thank all the readers who have read my blogs and my co-workers and supervisors for being awesome individuals who have made working here.
