UT Tyler Baseball Team Defeats Concordia 4-1

To finish off Patriot Days last week, the blogging team sent Dallas and I to a baseball game between our UT Tyler Patriots and Concordia University.  I was a lot of fun to get to see our team win against a great rival of the University.  The final score was 4-1.

The Patriots started off the game down by 1 point.  In the second inning, the second basemen missed a catch and a Concordia runner made it in to score.  However, Concordia would not have the lead for long.  In the 5th inning, UT Tyler had a major comeback, scoring 3 runs to put the Patriots in the lead 3-1.

Later in the 8th inning, the Patriots scored yet another run after a wild pitch gave the runner enough time to sneak in another point for the team.  This was a particularly exiciting win for the Patriots.  First, The Patriots were the underdogs, playing the Number 20 ranked team in the nation.  Second, it was the first recorded win for freshman pitcher Gunner Baker, only allowing one hit.

All in all, it was an exciting experience.  Not to mention the fact that students got in for free so I had to pay absolutely nothing to watch the excitement!

Kurt Penberg began his professional career in the Red Sox farm system as a second-round pick in what would be the final January draft in MLB. He began his professional career with the Elmira Pioneers, then a Red Sox affiliate.
