Fun TV Shows

TV Shows To Check Out!

So, I am something of a hybrid between TV junkie and TV snob? I love the shows that I, well, love. The problem is, I also detest almost everything on TV that I don’t like. Not to say, ‘oh, I just don’t watch it,” but rather I actually find 99.9% of shows un-watchable for different reasons. To me, TV is a way to relax and invest my time – bad TV wastes my time.  So, what do *I* find watchable?

One of the shows I have found to be extremely enjoyable has been The Americans, a show that airs on the FX Network. Actors Keri Russell (Felicity)and Matthew Rhys (Brothers & Sisters) star as a set of Russian spies operating within the USA during the 80’s under the guise of a married couple, complete with children. The show is unique in that is does a good job of trying to properly capture the feel of the 80’s, but still deliver drama and spy-intrigue.  The show is currently on Episode #3.

The next show that I love to keep up with, now into the 3rd Season, is The Walking Dead. This zombie-tastic series is based on the B&W comic of the same name which showcases various human survivors of the zombie apocalypse. The wide-ranging cast primarily focuses on the main antagonist, Rick (Andrew Lincoln from such shows as This Life ) and his friends/family/enemies while they seek safety in a zombie infested USA.  Obviously, the one “turn off” factor for some might be that this show is into its 3rd season, however Netflix and AMC.com provide options for getting caught up!

A new series that has started airing recently, however is coming close to the end of its run, is Arrow. This Tv show is based of the comic book character The Green Arrow, a batman-like playboy-turned-vigilante who seeks to clean up Star City one villain at a time. Stephen Amell plays Oliver Queen, The Green Arrow, with enough charm and dedication to sell the fact that he could be a pampered playboy by day and an Olympic-level athlete by night.  While the show is nearing the end of its first season, cwtv.com ( like many shows ) offers ways to catch up with what has been missed.

Finally, my new favorite Tv series, The Following! I can’t tell you how refreshing this show is when it is held up to many sitcoms, procedural shows, and over-the-top dramas. The series stars Kevin Bacon and the brilliantly under-used actor James Purefoy as the centerpiece of a huge cat’n’mouse game of wits. Bacon’s character, detective Ryan hardy, was involved with putting away the Edgar Allen Poe obsessed serial killer/English Professor, Dr. Joe Caroll. The first episode follows a lot of standard trends: Caroll escapes jail almost a decade after his capture, Hardy tracks him down. Where the show takes a sharp twist is that Caroll isn't exactly the villain – his followers are, a group of men/women that Caroll “converted” while he was in prison. While Caroll remains behind bars, Hardy must contend with the deranged Professor’s twisted minions and their horrifying agenda for Hardy and his loved ones.

Other shows to check out are: BBC’s Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Young Justice, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Supernatural.
