Homecoming is looming!

Orange floods the fields, food smells engulf the air, and people crowd the campus. Homecoming is almost here! It will be packed with different opportunities for students to feel the Patriot pride! This may not be high school anymore, and there may not be mums or garters, but students still come together to show pride in our school and enjoy these activities with friends.

Nothing brings people closer together than school spirit. The University of Texas at Tyler is a close knit community of faculty and students that stand for the orange, white and blue. Even if there are 7,500 students, we still share one common trait, we love our university. UT Tyler is a beautiful campus where facilities are new and students come here to learn and have fun.

This excitement transcends not only from Patriot Palooza, but to Homecoming as well.

My first Homecoming was last fall 2012 when I first arrived to UT Tyler. I was sadly only able to attend one event, but it was the best experience. I attended the events on Saturday where the golf cart parade, the chili cook-off and soccer games occurred. Every day hosts great festivities. Man of Steel is going to be shown during the week. How great is that? You get to see it again on a screen probably just as big as the movie theater, but no one will judge you for bring outside drinks and food.

Organizations on campus will host some events, such as Campus Activities Board overseeing a portion of the events such as the movie and comedy night.  The Student Government Association will host midnight breakfast. Breakfast for dinner! What beats bacon at midnight? NOTHING. Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Gamma and Sigma Alpha Epsilon will host different events as well. AXO will raise domestic violence awareness through a candle light vigil as well as a bake sale. Delta Gamma will be fundraising to help the blind and visually impaired. SAE will host the homecoming kickoff where there will be the car bash, live music, and free food.

So come out, don’t be shy and get into the Patriot Pride!
