Return of Game Club

Okay, so ... maybe saying "Return of Game Club" isn't wholly accurate. We never left, we just had summer break! Still, I am very excited we have renewed our registration for the new 2012-2013 school year and I am happier our attendance for even a small introductory meeting was almost twenty people!

The UT Game Club has had up and down semester registration numbers in the past, with our highest attendance number being almost 35 and our lowest being less than ten. I am proud however that we have always had some form of consistent attendance and that we've almost never had a problem keeping up with our senior members.

When we first were started Game Club had no meeting space and we had less than six members. Actually, I remember it as if we really only had four? Still, we had enough friends between all of us that we got more people involved and soon we took off!

One of our older test flyers!

Special thanks needs to be made for David Hill, our Faculty Advisor. I had heard about David through a student who said, "Yea man, I think there is a guy who tried to have a game Club on campus, maybe he can help you out?" David Hill was that "guy" and he has been our supporter through our 2 years of game'n it up!

PICTURED ABOVE: An Awesome Guy!

Huh, I guess this semester WOULD be our 2 year anniversary? Awesome!

Anyway, David has always kept his door open for any of us who have had questions ( or just wanted to talk about Star Wars ) so for that we are all very grateful! He also alerted us to the weird horde of Magic cards WotC sent to the Residence Life Dept that we were able to make use of.

He's an all-around awesome guy, so if you see him? Let him know you appreciate his work on campus, not just for Game Club, but for the University as a whole!

I am happy that Game Club has grown to have regular meetings as well as days set aside for the Warhammer Fantasy/40K table-top gaming systems, as well as the Star Wars Miniatures format. We're now experimenting with having space kept open for us on Mondays so people can meet up and play games that are not set into large groups like D&D, L5R, Magic, etc ...

While I won't be acting President as of the end of this semester, I am hopeful that new freshmen and other incoming students might find a use for Game Club and make it their own.

How we literally started from the ground up - nothing but a table and some flyers

Well I may not be a student there, but I do enjoy going to game club there from time to time, so I sincerely hope its still around when I have sometime to go there myself and enjoy a few games amid like minded people who enjoy the same things that I do.

I have had the chance to go to a few game nights and they were a lot of fun...I can personally say that the people of the game club are an awesome group of people.

Do you play "League of Legends" OR MTG?

We certainly do MTG ( quite a bit ) but since League of Legends, to my knowledge, is a PC game, we don't do that during meeting times.
