The Quest for the "Perfect Schedule"

Don't run from your fall schedule... REGISTER NOW!

It is again that time of year where I am finally trying to figure out the ‘perfect schedule’ for the Fall semester registration. Because I don’t have very many hours left to take, my next two semesters of my undergraduate career will be a seemingly lighter load. The desire to accomplish the elusive ‘perfect schedule’ is still very much present. Only Tuesday/Thursday classes or only Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes? Early morning and get it over or later classes and sleep in? So many questions in the quest for MY perfect schedule.
In my experience there is a few things which will help you in your future scheduling conflicts you will encounter.

11.       Register EARLY. If you are in a bigger department, all of the ‘good’ classes (or the classes everyone HAS to take) will be full if you do not get there in time. At this point you have a limited number of options which usually include begging some higher up for a permission number to enter a class you sometimes don’t even care about in the first place. They may even just tell you to wait until next semester. Trust me, this is more of a headache than it’s worth. Just register early on you myUTTyler account and leave all the headaches behind you.
2.2.      Give yourself STUDY TIME. In a perfect world you will finish all your assignments on time far before class ever begins. But, who lives in a perfect world? Anyone? Didn't think so. I know it appeals to most people to have all of you classes one on top of another, but if you give yourself a short break between, it gives you time to catch on any work that you may not have completed on time. I used to think just getting all my classes done at once is the best way to do things, but I have recently decided that this study time is a perfect way to make myself get things done! (this space also makes a great time for anyone else who like to get a snack between classes)
33.       All classes are not created equal. If you know one class has a huge workload, take this into account when scheduling other classes around it. This may mean that you have to only take 12 or 15 hours this semester, but it will be worth it. If you look at rate my professor online, past students give their input on professors which may or may not be accurate.
44.      Ask around. If you have not heard anything about a class before, ask around about the professor and the course. If you have friends who may have taken that course before they can give you a better insight into what you should expect.  If you don’t have access to anyone who has taken the course before you can look at course descriptions on our University of Texas at Tyler website.

All this being said; your ‘Perfect Schedule’ will only be as good as you make it to be. Your perfect schedule
may be different than your friend’s, but that does not make it any less perfect. Perfection is all in the eye of
the beholder right?
