UT Tyler Spring 2011 Commencement!!!!

The University of Texas at Tyler will hold spring commencement ceremonies May 13 and 14.Eight hundred nine degree candidates will be recognized in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.
The commencement schedule is:

•College of Nursing and Health Sciences – 3 p.m. May 13;

•College of Arts and Sciences – 6 p.m. May 13;

•College of Business and Technology – 10 a.m. May 14; and

•Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science – 1 p.m. May 14.

Commencement speakers and the ceremonies during which they will speak are:

•Printice L. Gary, UT System Regent – Colleges of Business and Technology, Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science.

A Dallas resident, Regent Gary was appointed to a six-year term on the UT System Board of Regents by Gov. Rick Perry in November 2007. Regent Gary chairs the Facilities Planning and Construction Committee and serves as vice chairman of the Finance and Planning Committee. He founded Carleton Residential Properties in 1991 and serves as its CEO and managing partner. Active in civic organizations, he has served on the Boards of the Dallas Citizens Council, the North Texas Tollway Authority, Pro-line Corporation and the Texas Tax Reform Commission. He currently serves on the Board of the Southwestern Medical Foundation and the National Equity Fund in Chicago, Ill. Gary holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Carleton College, where he served as a trustee, as well as a master of business degree from Harvard University.

•Neal Velvin, senior engineer with Velvin & Weeks Consulting Engineers, Inc. – Colleges of Nursing and Health Sciences and Arts and Sciences.

Former owner of Velvin & Weeks, Velvin served on the first Board of Regents for Tyler State College, the institution which became UT Tyler in 1979. He currently is a member of the UT Tyler College of Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Council and resides in Athens. Velvin holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Methodist University.President Mabry will give remarks.Presentation of degree candidates will be made by the deans of each of the university’s colleges: Dr. Kenneth Wink, Arts and Sciences; Dr. Harold Doty, Business and Technology; Dr. William Geiger, Education and Psychology; Dr. James Nelson, Engineering and Computer Science; and Dr. Linda Klotz, Nursing and Health Sciences.Texas Bank and Trust-Tyler president Jerry Woolverton, UT Tyler alumni representative, will give alumni association presentations.
