Patriot Days: Pie eating contest

Yesterday began a week long event here at UT Tyler that we call Patriot Days. To the school, the events that take place throughout the week are here to bring the campus together. To the students, it means free food and another reason to take a day off from that midday class (not that I would ever advocate that).

Patriot Days began this year with a craw fish boil down by Harvey lake. Of course after everybody filled up on the VERY generous amounts of food given out, a pie-eating contest seemed like the logical thing to do. With the afternoon sun blazing, several teams sat down to compete in the all-out, hands free pie eating contest, presented by my boys from Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Each team fought (ate) hard, and in the end my brothers Dillon Driscoll and Adrian Hood came out with the win for SAE. Adrian, I hope your stomach is feeling better today buddy. It turns out that eating two buttermilk pies after a tray of craw fish in the afternoon heat wasn't the best idea.

But it wasn't in vain, as the first place winners walked away with handsome $20 Walmart gift cards to go along with stomachs full of sun-warmed pie filling. Way to go guys.

I'd also like to make special mention of the trooper down on end, who after throwing up in one pie kept pressing on (with a new pie of course). These contests are brutally intense, and competitors like that could definitely take future pie eating contests to an even higher level.
