Final Exams... The Hard Knock Life

Excuse the title of the blog... it is an ode to one of my favorite musical artists, Jay-Z. I'm actually listening to "Empire State of Mind" a song off his BluePrint 3 album as I'm typing to you. I felt the need to share with some of you who may follow my blog, particularly incoming freshman, the dreaded experience of final exams. Simply put: they're horrible! You spend all semester reading, studying, and attending classes to make a good (or decent) grade and then at the end of the semester, when you're tired of all the studying and ready for a break you have final exams for all of your courses which can drastically change your grade for better or worse. I am a senior at The University of Texas at Tyler majoring in Finance with a minor in Political Science, expecting to graduate with my BBA in Finance in the spring of 2010. For my finals week this semester I have two exams and two papers left to study for and write. Thankfully, I am exempted from one of my finals because I made A's throughout the course of the semester. I spend pretty much all the time that I am not at either of my two jobs, organization meetings, or in class at the library getting ready for these things. The only thing you have to look forward to is the break after you're finished with all of them! It is important to study and prepare for them though. A poor grade on your final exam has the potential of changing your expected grade for better or worse. My sophmore year I had an 'A' in Chemistry Lab all semester then I did horrible on the final exam to get a 'C' in the class! The up side is that if you don't have the grade in the course that you want, you do well on the final and you can get a better grade than you expected. Either way you need to study or at least I do because I plan to attend law school and perhaps earn my MBA as well so my grades will matter. After finals are over with I will hang around the area for a few days to work, then I will head back home to Dallas. I'm looking forward to the break! Christmas and New Years are right around the corner so that will be a lot of fun. Anyways, I just wanted to share my perspective on final exams with you. In all honesty, they're really not that hard if you study well for them. I will give you some information about me the next time I blog or you can read the About Me section on my profile. Have a great weekend and I'll talk to you soon!
