I spend my free time drawing and watching Netflix.

I started working here in January 2011.

As of right now, I am the only one working at the Call Center when I started working.

I worked at Jimmy John’s over the summer.

Strangely I will no longer eat sandwiches from anywhere but from Jimmy John’s. So posh I know. But I mean if it’s free, I’ll eat.My roommate is Canadian, and she says baagel bites instead of bagel bites.

I aspire to be some kind of programmer or management when I get outta here.

I can be wise at times but mostly I’m working on staying with my head above the water.

I am a part of the “Cave” group and do Humans vs. Zombies.

I am in the service fraternity of Alpha Phi Omega petitioning group.

Overall my first week was alright aside from missing Friday classes because my loving snotty boyfriend was ill and he so graciously passed it on to me. I woke up and was like “wahhhhh what is air?”

I turned 21 on the past Saturday and spend my birthday watching aforementioned boyfriend put together my Ikea desk and then he bought me a new betta fish named Franklin (Coincidently, buying his girlfriend a fish sparked him into buying himself one, so like Monday we bought three glow fishes with a nice glow in the dark tank, he definitely has cooler fish and tank but I’m awesome because my fish is named Franklin)

Squeezing into the UT Tyler Telecommunications Team family

Hi everyone! My name is Patricia Peralta and I’m a new addition to the telecommunications team at The University of Texas at Tyler. I'm going to scribble my name into the family tree and introduce myself.

I’m a senior; I’ll be graduating in December with a bachelor’s in Political Science. I started at UT Tyler as a freshman, so I know a bit about the landscape about the place; I took a few courses at TJC when I was a senior in high school.

I’m a native Tylerite and I also currently work for the City of Tyler as well. I used to work at a movie theater and we did student discounts (I’ve seen many an UT Tyler student ID in my three and a half years at the theater). I've also worked in retail, so I'm really grateful to have the opportunity to actually affect student's decisions than to make transaction.

I don't know why they let me be lower management

I’m mostly a hermit, so I won’t be the absolute best person to ask about student organizations and events, but I’m friends with social butterflies that know much more than I do. I like current events and books. I’m addicted to TV shows and I almost usually get attached to fictional characters much more than I should.

I’m Mexican American and I was the first person in my immediate family to graduate from high school and will be the first in my extended family to obtain a higher degree. One fun fact about myself that I will leave you with: I speak Spanish at home with my parents and I learned English from the TV show Barney before I started kindergarten. 

Hey, everyone!

My name is Julia and I am one of the new additions to The University of Texas at Tyler’s communications team. I am really excited to start sharing everything I know about the academic, organizations and student life involvements that are found here at UT Tyler.

For a little background about myself- I just received my associate’s degree in business management. Getting my associates is remarkable to me because I finished something, woot woot! While at TJC, I competed on the speech and debate team at the state and national level, enjoyed several ceramics classes- where I made some cups and sculptures, changed my major twice, and took Calculus (which I had never planned on taking to begin with). Here at UT Tyler, I plan to study psychology as my major and minor in business.

For a little insight into who I am, let me first say that I am deeply passionate about human rights, feminism and kittens. One of the reasons I want to start learning about psychology is because I feel the study of the human mind and nature of people will lead me to conclusions surrounding cultural issues in our society. I am most intrigued by gender, sexuality and sexology. As for kittens, I am charmed by them because they are fluffy and adorable by default.

I always cringe when people ask me what my hobbies are because I cannot choose! For the most part, I appreciate anything that puts me out in nature. Activities like photography, bonfires, and star-gazing are all super therapeutic to me. I enjoy reading and finding out what is happening in the world. My friends keep me sane, my family gives me just the right amount of craziness I need, and my girlfriend inspires me to live with purpose. My favorite fruit is watermelon and my favorite word is fervor. That’s me in a nutshell.

Oh, and sunsets are my favorite part of the day.

I am really, REALLY eager to start sharing my experience at UT Tyler with you all. I’m sure we will learn a lot from each other. What are some of your favorite things to do around campus?

Newcomer in the midst of summer!

Stop your scrolling! You have arrived at the best destination you could possibly think of at this time of day. It is I, Kevin Berber. Your new student blogger. These next few months you will go on a cyber adventure of my everyday life here at The University of Texas at Tyler. Hold the hysteria.

Let's start with a little introduction...

I turned 20 on May 25th. Woot Woot! I have entered the great decade of the twenties. The period in life that everybody tries to forget when they're older, because either they're too embarrassed, or was just too beautiful that they can't re-live it. 

I am Mexican, and yes, I LOVE TACOS! I am bilingual in English and Spanish. Arriba! Orange is my favorite color, oh and look at that...orange is one of our school colors.

I am currently about to be a Junior this upcoming fall semester, so my journey in this lively and great campus will cease in two more years. I know. It may sound like a long time, but really, it goes by quick with all the study nights, involvement in student organizations, and awesome hang out times with friends.

I am majoring in Public Relations under the Mass Communication program. I am also minoring in Marketing. My dream is to work in the fashion industry doing public relations work and marketing. What does this mean? FREE CLOTHES!! Well hopefully. 

After I receive my Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communication I plan to pursue a Masters in either Public Relations or just Communications. 

I enjoy baking... no not just cookies, but other types of pastries like breads, pies, or even the fancy

crème brûlée. If I could eat Mac & Cheese every day I would, but alas I would destroy my attempt of keeping the summer body that I have.

I love learning about new cultures. I want to know how other people in different parts of the world live. That is why I plan to travel and broaden my horizons. I will hopefully visit Europe, Asia and South America. If I could live in Paris or London that would be uhhh-muzz-inggg!(amazing).

Just for fun, I'll give you my personal bucket list:

·         Learn all the romantic languages (French, Portuguese, and Italian)

·         Learn German

·         Skydive

·         Hike any of the highest peaks in the world

·         Get sprayed by a skunk...just kidding

·         Attend a runway show

·         Play spoons (card game) with the Pope

·         Meet the President of the U.S.

·         Meet James Franco

A new Journey with Shumaila

After long hours of working in retail, I am very proud to represent a part of Student Blogging team here at The University of Texas at Tyler. I am very excited to explore this new journey as a student.

My name is Shumaila, and I am a senior here at UT Tyler. My major is in Health Studies and after my graduation in December 2013. I am looking forward to work in Health Administration, and eventually doing my masters in Epidemiology. 

As a student, I always had interest in Health field, but I was never sure of what I actually wanted to do. I tried nursing and soon realized that even though it is a demanding field in Health care, it was definitely not what I would want to do. After researching through my options in many areas, I came across to Health Admiration and UT Tyler offers great opportunities for students like me. And this is how I landed to UT Tyler to start my journey.

Besides from school, I have many interests and hobbies that I would like to spend more of my time on.

• writing
• movies
• meeting new people

Being a full time student and working can sometimes become a hassle for many students, but being able to follow up on my interests can keep me motivated. Writing is one of my hobbies that I fall on on in stressful times; it helps me to express my feelings in unique way.

Well, apart from all of that, I love my family and friends, they mean the world to me and they are my major motivation factor that helps me to keep my dreams alive.

I’m Denise, a senior history major at The University of Texas at Tyler.  I have just joined the UT Tyler Student Bloggers, and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the student blog.

I have been a student at UT Tyler for about four years now, after transferring in from Weatherford College.  I was first drawn here because of the natural beauty that surrounds the campus, and to this day the scenery here still holds my allure.  It’s pretty awesome to be able to walk around a campus that is close to town and still has lots of trees and wildlife around.

I’m also very fond of the campus library.  Though I cannot explain exactly how, I knew the minute that I walked into the bright, cheery library here at UT Tyler that I had made the right choice in coming to this university.  Besides having thousands of the obvious things that a library has (which would be books, naturally), the library has several computers and I can print things for free there.  It’s really nice to be able to print out handouts for class without having to worry about an extra expense.

When I am not busy with classes, I love to dabble into a few of several interests.  Foremost, I love to read.  My home does not feel complete without a bookshelf; even when I am on the go, I take my library with me in the form of my Kindle.

I also love foreign cultures and languages.  The people of the world are so diverse, so I want to be aware of who is around me and to be able to communicate with them.  Besides English, I currently speak a bit of Spanish and French.  I’m also (slowly but surely) teaching myself some Italian and Japanese.

In saying that, I also love to reach out to the people around me by serving in the local community.  Earlier this summer I had the opportunity to help children improve their math and English skills at a local elementary school.  When I have time, I also enjoy going to the East Texas Food Bank and helping out there—I don’t think anyone should ever have to go hungry, so I like knowing that I have helped people to have at least a few meals.

I suppose that’s a pretty fair bit for now, but I will most certainly be back with more things in the near future.  For now, peace out!  :DD

UT Tyler: A New Beginning

It’s official! The college experience has finally begun for me! For all of you out there, my name is R. Chandler Upchurch, and I’m a freshman here at The University of Texas at Tyler! I’m currently pursuing a major in business management, and I would love to become a movie producer or music manager one day. I am starting my first college semester with very high expectations.

 I was born and raised in Dallas Texas, which never ceased to keep growing up interesting. When I was in elementary and middle school, I attended a few vanguard/magnet schools in and surrounding the Downtown Dallas area. That was good while it lasted, then I decided to turn back to public school. Instead of going to one of the huge public schools inside of Dallas County, I went to high school in a small town just outside of Kaufman, called Scurry-Rosser High School. You’ve probably never heard about it.

One of the things I love to do most is listening to music. I have always had a passion for music, so I began to learn to play a variety of different instruments. Here is a list of all the musical instruments that I either have known how to play, or can still play to this day:

I’m very honored to be a new member of the UT Tyler Student Communications Team, and I hope that this new part of my life ends up being everything I expect it to be and more! But I don’t know what the future holds for me and that alright with me! Sometimes not knowing what to expect next is what keeps life intersting! J
