Gabby's Winter Break!

Today marks my first official work day of the new year! I'm not going to lie, leaving home and coming back to school was not something I was looking forward to :( I definitely got use to lounging around, not having to think about school related things and mom's home cooking, not to mention the Filipino food that my grandpa was cooking during the holiday season! YUMM:) My grandparents from the Philippines came this past October after being out of the US for 2 years! It really made the holidays extra special <3
So now i'm back at UT Tyler and enjoyed an extremely busy day of re-organizing my room and putting my gazillion stuff back in my apartment in PV ( I kinda have an over packing problem.... ) So my very first blog of the year is of course about my winter break!!!:) Instead of writing long and detailed paragraphs about it, i'm just gonna show you in pictures and captions :) Hope you enjoy it!( By the way, I didn't do anything special since I am taking a GINORMOUS 5 week trip to Japan this summer )

Home Across the Ocean in Dubai

Last August marks one year since I stood in the airport back home hugging all my friends and family, got on a plane, left home and flew here to pursue higher education.

I get this question A MILLION TIMES: "Why did you come to Texas to study?"

ANSWER: I'm from Dubai and as awesome as Dubai is, the city has more of a business and tourist demographic. High schools are great in Dubai but there aren't a lot of great university established there yet. This is because the UAE (the United Arab Emirates) is still a fairly young country; it's only been around for about 40 years. I guess that makes Dubai as old as UT Tyler! :)

Things I miss most about home:

- My dogs. This is the one thing I miss the most about home. I have 2 pekingese back home that live with my cousins now. I really really miss them!

- My friends and family. I cannot express how much I miss them. All of them.

- The beach. I want to live on a beach one day. The beach is basically my number one most favorite place in the world. And Dubai is pretty much a city on the coast. Wherever you are in Dubai, you are never more than 10 minutes away from the sea. And to be honest? Dubai has some awesome beaches.

Road Trip Safety

It was New Years Day in 2011, when Katie Horn, an aspiring Math teacher,  made her way back from a trip to Austin, TX. Miss Katie took that weekend trip to Austin to see her older brother, and had to drive back a little too late. The long road was dark, and she couldn't see too far in front of herself. She hit a hog. Yeah, you heard me- she almost totaled her car by hitting a giant pig. She got stuck in the middle of nowhere.
Because Katie was on this trip alone, she went to call for help. Her cellphone was dead, and she had no car charger. She kept on her lights for safety, and her battery died. She had to make a paper sign that read 'HELP ME' in scribbled pen because that is all she had.

Easter-Sunday-Going-Home-itis

My coworker T.J wrote a blog about Spring-break-itis. Which I think I may be suffering from similar strand. It's Easter-Sunday-Going-Home-itis. The anticipation of going home has made me suffer from a lack of motivation.  The essay that I have due tomorrow seems more like a 500 page essay on the Korean War rather than a 1,500 word essay about my major. The Accounting test I have Wednesday feels like Organic Chemistry final exam. Every little thing I have to do feels like it's so ridiculously hard to do. When it's not. At all. Truth is i'm about 200 words short on the essay with two paragraphs left. The Accounting test will be easy.
.....
Maybe I just need some sleep
that sounds good
actually quite awesome..
I think I'll do that in a couple hours. Yeah. that sounds like a plan.
Bye! zzzzzz
