Freshman Orientation leaders have led their last sessions in
preparation for Fall 2014. The Student Communications team is hopping with
calls concerning last minute financial aid changes and making sure students get
their finishing touches in to the campus on time. Enrollment Services is busier
than ever making sure that everything students have an issue with gets
processed so the school year can kick off without a hitch. I’m exhausted just
thinking about! But do you all know what this means? School is about to start
again!
We don't know either. Don't worry. For some of you, this may induce groans of horror as the last days of precious summer flutter away in the stormy wind. For some, it brings on a flurry of nerves and excitement, either because you couldn’t wait to begin your college career or because you’re right at the edge of graduation. No matter what you’re feeling, the summer draws to a close and we’re on a course for a rocking semester here at The University of Texas at Tyler. |
Here, I’m going to leave you guys a list of things you might
do before the year gets started:
+If you haven’t already selected your classes, get with that
adviser and hurry! You don’t want the classes you have to have to be closed,
and you definitely don’t want to be stuck in a class you didn't want in the
first place. If you haven’t already seen, the new course catalog has been
released for 2014-2015. It’s awesome, go take a look!
+Figure out how you’re gonna get your tuition paid! Bills
dropped on your My UTTyler account a few days ago, so it’s time to put your
financial plans into action. Check your Financial aid pages if you haven’t and
accept those awards, or don’t forget to set up an emergency loan if you need!
Sorry, money... |
+Figure out your housing situation if you haven’t already! If
you have, remember to be getting the stuff you’ll be needing for going out
there and living on your own (if you are. If not, consider optimizing your room
at home for a college student experience you didn’t have to leave home for!)
+Start buying your school supplies! Everyone needs a good
carrying bag for your textbooks, notebooks, laptops, iPads, etc. You might even
need some of the other things I just listed. If you’re the kind of person who
wants to be prepared for class way before you have to be, you can head over to
the UT Tyler bookstore and find out what textbooks you’ll be needing. You can
definitely order through them, or go about your usual ways if you have
alternative sources. Don’t forget, your remaining financial aid can be used in
the bookstore exclusively from August 19th through the end of the
month.
+Get ready to move in! Move in dates are the week before
class starts, so make sure you, your family, your roommates, and your friends
have your game plans ready to go. Planning ahead is a great thing to start doing
in college.
Don't forget to pack your cat! |
+Buy yourself a
parking permit if you drive to campus! You can obtain one from the campus
police at the station, or come up to the campus University Center on August 21st
and 22nd. It’ll cost you $48. Trust me, you do not want to pay a lot of parking tickets for not doing this.
Did I forget anything? If so, let me know in the comments.
We can’t wait to see all you Patriots starting August 25th!
