The birds are chirping outside and one doesn’t have to
scrape ice off of their car anymore. What kind of sorcery is this? It feels
like spring is in the air! Finally, after a much awaited break from the hot and
cold temperature pattern worthy of a Katy Perry song, it feels like spring is
here. While for some this may mean “Brace yourself, exams are coming!” and to
the others it is more like, “spring BREAK is finally here!” For me, it is a
blend of the two. However, the best way to prepare oneself for the fun and
excitement that is spring break (or exams…) is to get organized from spring
cleaning. While that doesn't sound like a lot of fun, there’s just a certain
excitement in being able to decorate your own space however you want it and
know where everything is. Time to put those apple cinnamon air fresheners away
and pull open your blinds because here comes the sunshine!
Use your mop as a microphone :) |
These are your best friends! |
DO start in one room and work your way through your house.
Take your pick from kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and just focus on getting that
room of the hour as clean as possible. Otherwise if you wander around cleaning
as you go, you will feel overwhelmed and feel like you haven’t accomplished
anything.
DO re-arrange if you feel inspired to do so. Part of the fun
is getting your space exactly how you want it and embracing that trial and
error process. Don’t like your bed against the wall because of your loud neighbors?
Try switching your bed around. Don’t like how the desk takes up so much space?
Try moving it sideways against another wall to free up some floor space. Play
around with your floor space!
So much color~ |
DON’T feel compelled to keep the same décor up year round.
So maybe first semester you had pink flamingo lights hanging up around your
room? Move it to the patio for an instant Jimmy Buffett feel. Can’t stand
looking at that Justin Bieber poster anymore? Hang up an Avengers poster in its
place! Change it up as your go and let your room be your own personal Pinterest
board.
DO donate the unwanted things to Goodwill or a charity of
your choice. Not your thing? Try having a swap meet with your friends! You’d be
amazed at what cool, unique things can come of it. (That’s how I got one of my
old French couture shelves)
This is actually what goes through my mind! |
