As another round of nursing application deadline comes to an end, I thought it would be beneficial to all potential nursing students to explain how to apply to the UT Tyler's Nursing program. I know this process is very stressful and sometime confusing on what you needed to have completed and turned in by the deadline. I know, it's a crazy time! I was there not too long ago! So I hope this post will help clarify the application process and criteria for prospective nursing students!
Deadlines to apply to nursing program: Fall –February 15th / Spring – September 15th
1. You must apply and be admitted to the University of Texas at Tyler. Admission to UT Tyler does not mean you are accepted into the nursing program. Applying to the nursing program is a completely different application process. Upon being accepted to UT Tyler, you will be in the "pre-nursing" program. This means that you are taking the prerequisite courses needed to be completed prior to applying to the program.
2. The UT Tyler's Nursing Program prerequisite and core class list can be found here. Every public institution in Texas has a General Education Core Curriculum. The College of Nursing prerequisites consists of an additional 6 specific science classes.
3. After you complete the 36 hours of core classes and 25 hours of nursing prerequisite classes, you are now qualified to take the Junior Year Prerequisites needed the semester before the start of the nursing program. You do not have to finish these classes before you can apply, just know that they must be done before the semester you start the nursing program!
- " All applicants are required to complete the Junior Year Prerequisites before starting the program
- Nurs 3205 Nursing Concepts
- Theories and Nurs 3303 Pathophysiology before starting"
You can hand deliver or mail it to

5. You also must take "TEAS" test. There two types, TEAS and HESI, in this case,UT Tyler's entrance test is the TEAS version V or higher.
You can take the TEAS at the UT Tyler campus but space is limited and there are certain days when the test will be proctored so keep up with the test days and don't wait to sign up!
Acceptance to the UT Tyler's Nursing program are based on a point system. An example on how to calculate your points can be found here and here!
It's a waiting game after this. I'm not going to lie, waiting is not something I like very much, and it is nerve wrecking to wait about 5 weeks to get an answer. Keep in mind though that The College of Nursing has a plethora of applications that they must all individually look over! So try your best to be patient! YOU GOT THIS!
