Work Ahead ... or Else!

New semester!

New classes!

New deadlines!

While the third thing I mentioned might not seem like the biggest concern when held against things like "Where is my Financial Aid?" and "Why did my roommates think watching You Got Served was a good idea?"

Plan For Next Semester ... TODAY!

One of my favorite things is to plan for the upcoming new semester before the old one has officially ended. My eyes light up with the thoughts of diligent studying, well-taken notes, and the constant stream of A+ grades I will receive.

Taking Time to Say Thanks

Look, college is a busy time for everyone. Our course instructors take the time to teach the class, plan coursework, grade papers, etc... The office workers ( like those in Financial Aid, Housing, the departmental Offices ) have to keep track of emails, projects, the different Chair/Department Head's needs, and all this is nothing to what the higher ups in Administration work with.

New semester checklist

At the beginning of my freshmen year of college I had all this free time before school started and was lost at what to do. At the time I didn't have a television or a real laptop (I had a net-book that was more a pain to use than anything else).
So I did what any other person would do, I read the first chapter of my politics books and wrote notes.

As the new semester is soon to come in session, I again am left with all this free time and at lost at what to do. My books that I rented from Chegg have yet to arrived. I got my lab manual and solutions for my chemistry class but I can't really do anything without them yet.

So as I sat twiddling my thumbs in my room watching Freaks and Geeks on Netflix. I came up with a checklist for the new semester.

1. Put your schedule in whatever form you use to remember it and be informed of the times and classrooms. Don't forget to check it before your first classes in case of a change in classroom. I ended up late for a class because I had the wrong room number. That was fun. My method of keeping up with my schedule is to use Google calender and then screenshot my schedule and put it as my lock screen on my iPhone.

2. Get your books. Use whatever site/store you use and get them. Be aware that you may not use the books depending on the teacher. I usually always check my syllabus before I get my books to confirm the use of said textbook.

3. Make sure your financial aid went through and all that jazz. Remember everybody makes mistakes and mistakes can be fixed. Be aware that at beginning of the semester, everything related to classes and aid will probably be a busy place.

4. Know that  the 9th is the last day to drop classes online. The 14th is the last day to add classes online.  The census date is January 24th.

5. Remember to take a breath and relax.

I leave you all to your thoughts about everything you just read :)
as I head home and do some notes for my online business law class...

New Semester

New Semester!

This new semester is (thankfully) starting off much easier than the last one and I for one and super thankful. My last semester consisted of all my worst subjects, rolled into a squishy ball of “I hate my life.” This semester is two English classes ( yay! ), one Bio course ( ~_~ Boo! ) and an online cinema class where we watch films. No kidding!

What makes me excited about my English courses is that they are Graduate Level courses so I will have to read/work my behind off, but I am happy to be starting the Graduate process. My other interests of mind-controlling-severity will include:

-          -Take/study the GRE test
-          -Write/commit-to-concept papers for Grad Submissions as Writing Samples
-         - Apply for other colleges
-        -  Keep on top of my Grad classes

My book purchases this semester were also the lowest ever here at UT ( 60 bucks! ) however is because [ so far ] I only need books for one class. Not too bad.

Despite a possible hiccup in Financial Aid, everything got fixed up very well and my funds released today. I paid for books, my storage unit, and also got myself a new laptop.

Last semester was particularly troubling ( well, for me anyway in regards to this problem ) because I had quite a few online components and class projects which was not workable from an iPad. I rented an e-textbook which had no NOOK support on the device, thus it was for all intents useless.

This semester while I am on campus I’ll have access to a real laptop so I can use a full version of Office, watch the films I’ll need to see for class, and upload/submit my WORD document papers, etc…

In all, it will be a difficult semester, but only because of the extra-curricular stuff that will be possible because my physical course-work is so agreeable.
