I'm Leaving the Call Center and It Hurts.

I’m not really sure how to start this blog. FIRST, let me just say that last week I got my nails done at Wal-Mart for six dollars. SIX DOLLARS. I felt so fancy, until I completely flubbed up one of my nails on my steering wheel while getting into my car five minutes afterwards.

Such is life.

That was the start to one of the more drama filled weekends that I’ve had in quite some time, ranging from family issues, to friends being unfriendly, to work situations being less than desirable. And then there is today.

It’s my last day at the UT Tyler call center, and I’m not sure what I should be feeling. Part of me really wants to be excited for another new beginning. New people, new challenges, new circumstances that will inevitably make me a better or worse person. The invariable changes that are straight up facts of life. We grow until we can’t anymore. We move on.

But don't be sad! This isn't my last blog! It's just my last day working here. And I have had great memories. And I've gotten really good at things that I've never had the chance to do before, like eating cupcakes at a big fancy desk, and writing about Disney princesses, and making memes, and calling kids who really, really want to come to UT Tyler, and being hung up on many times by other kids who in fact do NOT want to come to UT Tyler but you know what that's YOUR LOSS because I'm fun to talk to! Ahem.

This job really meant something to me. It was special because it was my favorite. It was the first job that made me feel like I was working towards something with a group of people that I trusted, and who even showed up to work on time for the most part! I will always have really fond memories of this job because it helped me grow into filling a leadership role.

I learned so much about being a good supervisor. I learned that autonomy in the workplace and reinforced team empowerment was the way to go. I learned how to work Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest, Blogger, and Instagram. I learned that if you want to get people to really work towards something, give them incentives to make it a real achievement for a job well done.

When I first came to the UT Tyler call center, I was a wee baby. I started writing blogs and getting involved with University events- I connected with the University in a way that I’d not done before. It was really great, and I was and still am proud of everything we did...

Zee animals in our natural habitat.
I played Dungeon and Dragons at work one day, people. Like, that happened! I got a cool band shirt one day.  I met a bunch of Political Science majors who I’m now friends with. I listened to very strange foreign pop music that I obviously couldn't sing the words to, so there was no performance pressure! I met a cool chick with pink hair who is just as passionate about sexual health as I am. Sometimes we would go on Starbucks runs for a break! I had the best freaking flan OF MY LIFE. My co-supervisor brought me cupcakes at work almost every day. I wrote a blog that now has 34 thousand hits in internet land. I became a supervisor and got to sit at a fancy desk. I was fancy.

Most importantly, I learned what it was like to be part of a group that had a lot of fun, and still went above and beyond to get the job done. So yea. I’m just gonna leave this right here. Whenever I get sappy, I also get pretty country and say y'all and crave chicken fried steak. These are my feels, so don’t judge me.

You're not judging me.

I love you all. Thanks for keeping up with my words.
