It's that time of the year again!!
Orientation season is upon us! Orientation is part of the new student program here at
The University of Texas at Tyler. It helps incoming freshman transition to college. It also provides a different experience as they participate in a different program that exposes the campus and its resources to them. I can't wait for the sessions to start!

2014 Orientation Leaders! |
This past weekend was Orientation Leader Retreat! All orientation leaders and orientation planning committee members spend a weekend at a camp participating in team work building activities! This weekend was a lot of fun as we were able to get to know our fellow orientation leaders! The retreat lasted from Sunday afternoon to Sunday morning. Every day we participated in activities that brought out our leadership qualities as well as informing us about the campus. Some of the exercises called upon our skills to work together to complete a task, such as communicating to build a square with rope without seeing. This exercise called upon our ability to communicate with the team to meet a goal. Although we spent a lot of time learning information and skills to perform the job effectively, we were able to have some down time.
This retreat was able to strengthen my communication skills as well as leadership abilities. This program allows for us to become better leaders as it is our duty to help freshmen transition into their freshman year. Every freshman orientation sessions brings a different experience so I can't wait to see what it will be like this year! There are four different sessions students can attend:
- Session 1: June 12-13
- Session 2: June 26-27
- Session 3: July 10-11
- Session 4: July 24-25
Students have the choice to come to either of those sessions! Be sure to
register for freshman orientation!
Transfer students also have the chance to attend transfer orientation but this consists of information sessions that last half a day in comparison to freshman orientation. Click
here to register for transfer orientation! Here you will learn about the different resources available at UT Tyler as well as touring the campus!
Be sure to register and attend orientation! You won't regret it!
